The weekend marked our final scheduled training weekend before the Ten Tors main event on the 8th, 9th and 10th May 2026 - and what a weekend it was!

After six training weekends of wet, cold, and windy weather, we were finally treated to blue skies, sunshine, and light winds. A welcome boost for our teams ahead of the big event.

The weekend began on Friday evening with a full kit check after school. Every team member laid out their equipment to ensure they had everything listed on the official Ten Tors kit list. Most had packed thoroughly, with only a few missing items - much better to discover this now, while there’s still time to correct it, than on the weekend itself.

Saturday started bright and early. We met at school at 05:45, aiming to be walking on Dartmoor by 7:00am - just as they will during the actual event in May. The teams then tackled a genuine 35‑ or 45‑mile route, selected from those they may receive in May. Using their growing experience of the moor, they planned their routes by considering the permitted river crossings, rare bird nesting areas, and night‑stop requirements, just as they will need to during the challenge.

Throughout the weekend the teams performed exceptionally well. Navigation was strong, and their wild‑camping skills were impressive - pitching camp in the dark on Saturday evening and packing away again at 05:00 on Sunday ready to start walking at 6:00am.

We believe that, for the first time ever, a CVCC team successfully completed a full route during our dress rehearsal weekend - an incredible achievement given that our training weekend offers less daylight and walking time than the main event. This team, along with the other two teams, have shown they are well‑prepared and can now look forward with confidence to the Ten Tors weekend in May.
