BackClystvale’s U16 rugby squad recently travelled to compete in a The Rosslyn Park national 7s tournament in London, facing strong opposition in their group fixtures.
The results were:
- Clystvale 5 – 28 Perins
Try: Michael B after a patient and well structure build up was rounded off nicely with a stylish offload from Aiden to Michael who rounded off the move - Clystvale 0 – 50 Eltham College
Eltham topped the group convincingly. - Clystvale 5 – 50 Framlington
Try: George, following an excellent chip over the defensive line and a favourable bounce to finish.
Although the scorelines were challenging, the squad demonstrated exceptional resilience, pride, and professionalism. Their determination never wavered, and they represented Clystvale with maturity and spirit throughout the competition. Every player should feel proud of their commitment and character.
After the fixtures, students enjoyed a two‑course sit‑down meal - burgers followed by brownies - organised and managed entirely by the group. Their teamwork and maturity in coordinating the evening were impressive and set a positive tone for the remainder of the trip.
The following day, the squad visited Twickenham Stadium for a private guided tour. Highlights included:
- Exploring the England changing rooms
- Sitting on the substitutes’ bench
- Visiting the Rose and Poppy Gates
- Experiencing the view from the Royal Box
A standout moment came when the team lined up in the players’ tunnel and walked pitch‑side to the sound of a roaring crowd played through the stadium speakers - an unforgettable experience for all involved.
The tour concluded with a visit to the World Rugby Museum, where students viewed the 2003 Rugby World Cup and learned about England’s cap‑number tradition, stretching from the first 20 players in 1871 to the current total of 1476. Several students also had the chance to meet England and Northampton Saints player Tommy Freeman, adding an extra highlight to the trip.
Mr Stapleton and Mr Ingham‑Hill, who accompanied the squad, praised the students for their exemplary conduct throughout. Their politeness, respect, and positive attitude made them outstanding ambassadors for the school.
