Young Carers
Clyst Vale Community College defines a young carer as ‘someone under the age of 18 who looks after or helps to look after and care for someone who is a family member or friend. Caring responsibilities frequently involve adult level tasks such as practical household chores (cooking, cleaning, shopping, personal care (bathing, dressing), managing household finances, administering medication or offering vital emotional support’.
Staff recognise that a young carer carries out an important role within their home, providing assistance and help to the people who need it most.
We are keen to ensure that all young carers are known to us and can access additional support in school when needed.
All staff working at Clyst Vale can offer support to young carers, but we also have a dedicated team who run young carers groups, understand the barriers that young carers might encounter when accessing their education, and ensure reasonable adjustments are in place. These staff members are:

Mrs Telford

Mrs Jones

Mrs M Faulkner
If you feel your child is a young carer, but the school is not already aware, please contact Louise Telford, Deputy Principal for Vulnerable Learners: telfordl@clystvale.bep.ac
