Year 8 Football Match Report

Clyst Vale 4-1 Teign School
Devon County Cup - First Round

On a windy but sunny afternoon at Clyst Vale, the Year 8 football team produced an impressive performance to secure a 4-1 victory over Teign School and book their place in the second round of the Devon County Cup.

Clyst Vale lined up with Lenny in goal, Winter, Louis and Oscar in defence, Charlie and Oscar K. in midfield, and an attacking trio of Malakai, Maverick and Harry up front. The bench was made up of Ethan, Henry, Rocco, Oscar D. and Harry.

The hosts made the perfect start and were ahead within just two minutes. Some intricate passing moved the ball quickly through midfield before finding Malakai, who finished brilliantly with a powerful strike to give Clyst Vale an early 1-0 lead.

Teign responded well and soon found an equaliser. Awarded a free-kick around 20 yards from goal, their player unleashed a superb effort that flew into the top corner, leaving Lenny with no chance and bringing the score level at 1-1.

The Year 8s refused to let their heads drop and quickly regained control of the game. A clever through ball released Maverick behind the Teign defence, and as he raced through on goal he was brought down in the penalty area. Maverick stepped up to take the spot-kick himself. His initial effort struck the post, but he reacted quickest to slot home the rebound and restore Clyst Vale's lead.

With the defence remaining solid and the midfield working tirelessly, Clyst Vale continued to create opportunities. Their persistence paid off in the second half as excellent teamwork and passing football led to further goals from Malakai and Maverick, both completing excellent attacking moves to put the game beyond doubt.

The final whistle confirmed a deserved 4-1 victory and a place in the second round of the County Cup. Every player contributed to an outstanding team performance, demonstrating excellent teamwork, effort and skill throughout the match.
