Yr 8 Rugby Match

The Y8 boys arrived at Uffculme on a mild, sunny afternoon keen to get a game under their belts before half term. Uffculme are traditionally a strong rugby playing school and this cohort was no exception. Clyst Vale also arrived with some players new to the game in Aaron and Freddy in the pack and Harry in the backs. However, they all showed real promise and gained praise from the Uffculme member of staff. Aaron ran well into contact whilst Freddy's rucking over the ball was fearsome. Harry made a great debut scoring one of the CVCC tries with a fine solo run in from 40 metres. In the pack Will was dominant at hooker supported by a resolute Mikey at prop. The boys won most of the ball which Ned spread out to the willing hands of Rory, Henry and Oscar. The pace and agility was provided by the wingers and rotating through Harry, Toby, Oli and Maverick all showed some great footwork to evade the first tackle and make ground. However, it was a tough game for the lads and far more tackling was required as wave after wave of Uffculme attacks poured in. Marco was excellent in defence as was Will and Oli holding out some determined runs. It was great to see some strong running from our own side as late on Rory, Aaron and Mikey made ground finding space for Oli to score in the corner and eventually move the dial to a 10-50 loss. A great atmosphere from the lads who took a hammering, but never fell apart and always supported their team mates when mistakes were made.

Player of the Match: Will, great in the scrum, tough in the tackle, a couple of runs and excellent in the rucks.
