Clyst Vale vs Torquay Academy – Year 8 National Cup Match Report

Tuesday 6th January 2026

Clyst Vale’s Year 8s saw their National Cup journey come to an end against a strong and highly academy‑driven Torquay Academy side. Despite the challenging 8–1 scoreline, the team showed real character, continuing to work hard and compete throughout the match. Their determination and resilience were clear from start to finish.

Clyst Vale’s goal came through Mason Williams, finishing off a well‑constructed move that reflected the team’s intent to play positively whenever possible. The midfield worked hard to get the ball down and play, but they were often outmuscled and outmatched by a very physical Torquay unit. Defensively, the boys faced constant pressure, with Torquay’s forwards allowing little time on the ball and making it difficult to build from the back.

Unlucky, lads — your effort and attitude were a credit to the school. We now look forward to the County Cup, where Clyst Vale will face the winner of Ivybridge vs Heles School.

Clyst Vale 5–4 Stover (AET) Devon County Cup – First Round

Tuesday 13th January 2026

What a night for the Year 10s — a nine‑goal thriller that had absolutely everything. Clyst Vale and Stover went toe‑to‑toe in a cup tie packed with momentum swings, big moments, and standout performances.

Ollie P set the tone early, striking twice in the 13th and 16th minutes to put Clyst Vale in control. Stover hit back on 21 minutes, but Marley restored the advantage almost instantly on 22. Another Stover goal on 26 minutes made it 3–2 in a breathless first half.

The drama kept coming after the break. Ollie P completed his hat‑trick on 34 minutes, before Stover responded again through their number 14 and number 7 to level the game at 4–4 and force extra time.

With legs tiring and tension rising, it was George W who stepped up in the ninth and final minute of extra time, smashing home the decisive goal from a lobbed Ollie P cross to send Clyst Vale into the next round with a 5–4 victory.

Clyst Vale 2–1 Tiverton Devon County Cup - First Round

A brilliant first competitive outing for the Year 7s as Clyst Vale booked their place in the next round with a hard‑fought 2–1 win over Tiverton. The boys dominated the first half, controlling possession with Ethan and the backline rock‑solid throughout. The midfield trio linked superbly, and the wide players stretched the game well.

The opener came from a moment of magic — Maverick jinked past two defenders and fired a rocket into the top corner for 1–0. Changes before half‑time kept things steady, and Clyst Vale went in deservedly ahead.

The second goal was a brilliant counter: Rocco burst down the right, pulled it back to Maverick, who unselfishly squared it to birthday boy Harry E. He shaped to shoot one way, dragged it the other, and squeezed it under the keeper for 2–0.

Tiverton pulled one back from a corner, but Clyst Vale held firm. A last‑minute crunching tackle from Winter summed up the commitment as the boys dug deep to see out a 2–1 win.

A fantastic start to their cup journey — onto the next round.
