Clyst Vale 3–3 Exmouth (after extra time)
Clyst Vale win 5–4 on penalties

A truly unforgettable final delivered everything you could hope for—drama, resilience, and moments of real quality—as Clyst Vale were ultimately crowned Under 14 East Devon Football Cup champions after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Exmouth.

Fast Start, Harsh Reality

Clyst Vale began the contest with purpose and energy, dominating the opening ten minutes and carving out several promising chances. However, despite their early control, they were unable to convert, and were made to pay in ruthless fashion by Exmouth. Against the run of play, Exmouth struck twice to take a surprising 2–0 lead, leaving Clyst Vale stunned and with a mountain to climb.

A Lifeline Before the Break

To their credit, the Clyst Vale boys refused to let their heads drop. Just before half-time, they earned a crucial corner—and made it count. Rising highest in the box, Elijah F powered a header beyond the Exmouth goalkeeper to bring his side back into the game at 2–1. It was a vital moment that shifted the momentum and belief heading into the break.

Second-Half Fightback

Buoyed by that late first-half goal, Clyst Vale came out strongly after the restart. Their pressure was rewarded when Mason W was played through on goal and showed great composure to guide a precise finish into the bottom corner, levelling the score at 2–2.

With both teams pushing for control, the game ebbed and flowed, but it was Exmouth who struck again—grabbing a goal with just five minutes remaining. At 3–2 down so late in the match, it would have been easy for heads to drop. Instead, Clyst Vale showed tremendous character.

Last-Gasp Heroics

Deep into stoppage time, with virtually the last kick of the match, Clyst Vale found their moment. Sonny M stepped up to deliver the equaliser, sparking wild celebrations both on the pitch and the sidelines. At 3–3, the match headed into extra time, with emotions running high.

Tense Extra Time

Despite the pulsating nature of the contest, extra time proved a more cautious affair. Both sides were understandably wary, and clear-cut chances were limited. With neither team able to find a decisive breakthrough, the final would be settled from the penalty spot.

Nerves of Steel from the Spot

Clyst Vale showed incredible composure in the shootout. Mason W, Sonny M, Charlie N, and Ellis C all stepped up and confidently converted their penalties. With Exmouth missing one of theirs, everything rested on an unlikely but dramatic final penalty taker—goalkeeper Will W.

Defying injury and handling immense pressure, Will W stepped forward and smashed his penalty into the back of the net, sealing a 5–4 shootout victory and sending the Clyst Vale players into jubilant celebration.

Worthy Winners

What followed was a mix of joy and sportsmanship, as Clyst Vale celebrated their triumph while showing great respect to their Exmouth opponents after such a fiercely contested final.

This was more than just a win—it was a demonstration of resilience, teamwork, and belief. From going 2–0 down to lifting the trophy, Clyst Vale proved themselves worthy champions.

A truly epic final—one that will live long in the memory.
