Clyst Vale vs Westexe School
In challenging conditions and relentless torrential rain, the Clyst Vale Year 9 boys produced a spirited performance despite a 6–2 defeat to a strong Westexe side.
The match began with Westexe applying early pressure, and Clyst Vale soon found themselves 2–0 down. However, the response was immediate and impressive. A moment of real quality from Reuben T brought Clyst Vale back into the game, as he curled an outstanding free kick into the top corner to make it 2–1.
Westexe continued to threaten and extended their lead before the break, leaving Clyst Vale trailing 5–1 at half-time. Lesser teams might have folded, but the boys showed real character in the second half. Their determination, work rate, and improved play were rewarded when Jack R finished off a well-worked move to score Clyst Vale’s second of the match.
Across the pitch, there were strong performances from every player, but special recognition goes to Harry C, Sonny M, and Ellis C, who each delivered excellent displays in difficult conditions.
Despite the scoreline, the team can take plenty of positives from their resilience, teamwork, and second-half performance. With this attitude, they head into their upcoming East Devon Cup fixtures with confidence and belief.
