Badminton Report

Well done to all the students from Year 10 who took part in a friendly badminton tournament against Tiverton High School. For some it was a good warm up and return to form prior to the District Competition next month, whilst for others it was a first taste of matches against other schools.

Tiverton arrived with plenty of lads, but limited female players and so it was decided the CVCC Girls A team should take on the boys. It was a very close affair with Captain Kasey running their number one close and Daisy going one step further to beat their number two in the singles games. Each match was hard fought with Merryn playing some superb drop shots to keep her opposite number on the run.  Georgie initially seemed uncertain of her abilities, but threw herself into the event and was soon winning points and getting the boy on the other side of the net racing to reach shots. A huge improvement in the space of an hour for Georgie and Daisy.

The CVCC Girls B team was led by Connie who was playing for the first time in a match and was beaten by one point against her female counterpart. Ava and Lily also new to the format battled hard with both energy, enthusiasm and soon grew in confidence. Lily especially showing super agility on court to reach some of the back court drives.

Court three hosted the boys B teams and Ewan led the charge as captain. After initially looking a little rusty he rallied the troops and loses soon turned into wins. He was supported by the exuberant Sam who approached every match with a keenness to win. Jack, Josh and Ryland were able team mates and all three showed promise for the future in their shot selection and power.

The final court was the arena for the boys A team led by Dexter. Another player who has missed a few training sessions due to other commitments he looked a little rusty as well. However, with Archie, Ed, Tristan and Elliot all on the squad the wins soon racked up. Elliot and Ed's power shots have come on immensely and Archies role as number two ranked player is bearing fruit. His movement, tactical awareness and shot selection are up there with the best.

A great evening
