Y13 Prom – Friday 19th June, On the Waterfront, Exeter
BackOur evening to celebrate the end of the A-level exams had arrived! The tables were decorated with garlands, flowers and comedy cardboard sunglasses ready for the arrival of our special guests – our final outgoing cohort of Year 13 students.
The evening brought a range of emotions: happiness and pride that all the students there had successfully completed their studies and made it through the gruelling exam season – as well as excitement for everything that they plan to do next, as they get ready to launch into the beginning of the rest of their lives. But despite the celebratory tone, all staff members present felt a tinge of sadness as this is the last time we will ever wave off our Y13s onto their big future journeys.
The Waterfront did a great job of the catering with plenty of delicious pizza – even Mr Stapleton couldn’t eat any more! We then moved onto prizes – lots of daft awards such as ‘Most trips to LIDL in free periods’ and ‘Most likely to end up in outer space’. Following this was the raffle, with something for every student - including souvenir canary yellow Post 16 T-shirts!
Sophie Shillingford (of course!) won Most Inspirational Teacher – as she has done for the past countless years. Well done Sophie. It was also fantastic that Miss Haynes was able to pop in for a brief hello with everyone, a well-timed pitstop from pushing her new family addition around the Quayside.
Thank you to teachers who came along to join in the fun and support our Year 13s in their very last social occasion with us. We did have a lovely evening, although we will be particularly sad to see this lovely group of young people leave us.
Well done, Year 13, for everything you have achieved so far and every good wish for your bright and exciting futures! We look forward to seeing you on Results Day in August.
