Ten Tors Challenge

tentorsSince last October a group of Year 9, 10, and 11 students have been training hard for this year’s Ten Tors Challenge which takes place on Dartmoor on 10th and 11th May 2014. There are just a few days left before departing for Dartmoor and finding out which 35-mile route the Year 9 and 10 teams have been allocated, as well as which 45-mile route the Year 11s have been given. It’s the third year Clyst Vale has entered teams in the Ten Tors event so we wish all 12 students who form the two teams every success on their routes around the hills and tors of Dartmoor. Three Colyton Grammar School students are joining the Year 11s in the 45-mile team so it will be a real team effort.  It will be possible to follow their progress around the routes on the Ten Tors website (/redir.aspx?C=45002bac8dc844d0b32e05ec57552d70&URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.ex.ac.uk%2ftentors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">www.ex.ac.uk/tentors) using our team code which is C06.

We would also like to wish all other Clyst Vale students participating in the Ten Tors challenge with other organisations, such as the Cadets, Explorers and others, every success. We look forward to seeing many of them around the camp on the Friday as they attend the mandatory safety briefings, the scrutineering (kit check), and enjoy the atmosphere before embarking on the challenge at 7am on Saturday morning!

The photo shows some of the Year 10s at High Willhays, during one of our early training walks in the cold winds of winter on Dartmoor.  Since then they’ve completed more day walks and weekends training out on the moor, including wild camping, so are well prepared and ready for the challenge to come…
