Y11 Football - Cup Exit

Sadly the Year 11 boys bowed out of the county cup with a battling loss away at Devonport High School for Boys in Plymouth. An all boys school with the same role as CVCC, an odd astro pitch and a long trip pre match all stacked the odds against Ellis's team of footballers. Indeed, some of the side were pressganged from the rugby squad with Aidan and George shoring up the defence and Dillon enforcing order in the midfield. All three showed they are multi talented as they held their own and in Aidan and Dillon's case showed some smooth dribbling skills to get themselves up the pitch. They were helped out by Year 10 Noah, a calming influence in centre of defence and a very impressive Izaac.  In goal another Year 10 Joe was called to arms and although the team leaked a number of goals, none could be attributed to his keeping. The midfield was packed with talent as Ellis and Max paired with the robust Dillon. They held the ball well and at times were able to find Luka up front, but he was always under pressure and never had an opportunity to turn or challenge the opposition. He was flanked by Owen and Ed, then latterly Harry, all of whom manged to find pockets of space, but were quickly dispossessed. Owen was swapped out for Year 10 Marley who had a good impact, tackling back and also making some great runs forward although lacking a clinical final ball or finish. The brightest moments came in the second half as DHSB lost their discipline and scythed down some lovely runs from Ellis, Max and Dillon. However, the Clyst Vale boys, for all their effort couldn't really test the opposition keeper and so in front of the grand old Naval hospital and surgery the lads fell victim to a strong DHSB side who will no doubt go far in the competition. A long drive back up the Devon Expressway, but the team remain in high spirits and are looking forward to the coming fixtures next week.

Player of the Match: Izaac - brilliant in defence, keeping the DHSB best player under wraps, good distribution, clear communication and support plus some near misses later in the match as he ventured forward.
