Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition
On Saturday 5th May, six Year 11 students boarded the school minibus at 8.30am and began their Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Their route started at Musbury, near Axminster and took them along the East Devon Way, through Uplyme to a campsite in Charmouth. The weather stayed fine and the group were on time at all check points. The tents went up and the students were eating within 30 minutes of completing day one.
The second day was more physical! The route followed the South West Coast Path from Charmouth to Burton Bradstock. Miss Barratt, Chris Eales and Brian the assessor met the group on the top of Golden Cap. The students were then left for another five hours, and boy they were tired at the end of the route! Another lovely day’s weather, fantastic views but a lot of hills!! The campsite in Burton Bradstock was one of the group’s favourites that evening , but not the next morning. At 7am it was pouring down and it got heavier as the group packed up their equipment. They left a wet, tired and very quiet group for their last day of walking. It was still raining at West Bay, but then it stopped and the sun shone for lunch in Symondsbury. The group finished at Shave Cross exactly on time.
