U13 Rugby Girls represent Devon at South West Event

Following their success at the Devon TAG games at Exeter University in March, the U13 girls represented Devon at Weston Hornets RFC on Tuesday,

How the weather can change in just a month! It was too cold for TAG at the end of March, and the ground was rock solid for the contact games which the girls took part in. Unfortunately, this took its toll on the girls through the games they had to play, with Captain Georgia Evans picking up a knee injury in the first game, and Amy-Louise Riggs and Lydia Rowe also picking up knocks. This was in addition to the team already being without key player Amelia Worth as she picked up a concussion from a weekend tournament.

The girls competed brilliantly throughout the day, playing against very strong opposition from Gloucester, Bristol and the Forest of Dean. They lost their first game narrowly to the eventual winners, but then recovered to record two wins and a draw in the remainder of the tournament. Malli Smith made some great runs from scrum half to score some excellent tries, with Fee Cassidy-Butler and Holly Jewell scoring hatfuls of tries in the remaining two games. A special mention must also go to Freya Westney who competed as a Year 7 and did superbly well.

Well done to all of the squad: Georgia Evans (capt), Malli Smith, Lydia Rowe, Amy-Louis Riggs, Holly Jewell, Fee Cassidy-Butler, Freya Westney, Ella Goodwin, Amelia Worth, Jess Randall-Johnson and Lauren Jenner.
