Since last October, a group of Year 10 and Year 11 students have been training hard for this year’s Ten Tors Challenge which takes place on Dartmoor on the 11th and 12th May 2013. There are just a last few training sessions left before departing for Dartmoor and finding out the routes the teams have been allocated (Year 10 – 35 miles and Year 11 – 45 miles). It’s the second year Clyst Vale has entered teams in the Ten Tors event so we wish all 12 students who form the two teams every success on their routes around the hills and tors of Dartmoor. It will be possible to follow their progress on the Ten Tors website (www.ex.ac.uk/tentors) using our team code which is C06.

We would also like to wish all other Clyst Vale students participating in the Ten Tors challenge with other organisations such as the Cadets, Explorers and others, every success.   We look forward to seeing many of them around the camp on the Friday as they attend the safety briefings, the scrutineering (kit check), and enjoy the atmosphere before embarking on the challenge at 7am on Saturday morning! The photo on the left (above) shows the Year 10s at South Hessary Tor, the sixth tor, last Saturday.  They started walking from Okehampton Army camp at 7am on that day’s 36km route before joining the Year 11s (pictured above right) making camp at Beardown Tor, the seventh that day.  On the Sunday they completed a further 24km walk taking in the remaining three tors which was a good way to finish the training ready for the challenge to come…
