Year 9 Trip to Belgium July 2018

We had a wonderful trip to France and Belgium in July 2018. The students all behaved perfectly and were a credit to Clyst Vale Community College.

We packed a great deal into the trip. We stayed at the Peace Village Hostel in Messines near Ypres. We were able to lay wreaths at the Menin Gate and at the Harry Patch Memorial. On our visit to the Somme we went to the Newfoundland Regiment memorial. Back in Belgium Robert Davies was able to lay a wreath at Tyne Cot for his great uncle who was in the 1st battalion Devonshire Regiment. His uncle, John Youldon of Whimple was one of 325 men from that battalion killed on 4th October 1917. It is especially poignant to be able to make family connections on this trip.

Miss Jenkins, Miss Matthews and Mr Jones gave up their time to take the students on the visit. All of us were impressed with the superb group of students on this trip.
