A Day of Two Halves

Wednesday 21 November was a very strange day! The torrential rain and flooding caused many students, parents, staff and buses difficult transport problems. Six school buses were affected, so attendance was down to 72%. At the start of first lesson fifteen teachers were still stranded, so a number of classes were doubled-up and teachers volunteered to cover for their colleagues. The situation steadily improved during the morning, and by noon all but four members of staff had made it in, and the sun was shining!

The end of the day was much easier, although some students in more remote villages still had some difficulties as water levels remained high; once again, we were grateful to Stagecoach for organising buses to ensure students could get back to Exeter and Cullompton (with a detour!).

I must thank students for their excellent attitude today; parents for their good sense and communication with us; and to my colleagues for making the day as normal as we possibly could!
